The sequel to the # 1 bestseller White is the coldest colour A gripping dark psychological thriller. When twenty-nine-year-old Cynthia Galbraith struggles to come to terms with her traumatic past and the realities of prison life, a prison counsellor persuades her to write a personal journal exploring the events that led to a life sentence for murder. Although unconvinced at first, Cynthia finally decides she has all the time in the world and very little, if anything, to lose. She begins writing and holds back nothing sharing the thoughts she hadn't dare vocalise, the things that keep her awake at night and haunt her waking hours. Even the darkest secrets can't stay hidden forever...

When evil calls your name John Nicholl 9781786106674 Books

First of all, this is not a stand alone book. The first, "White is the Coldest Colour", must be read before "When Evil Calls Your Name" to completely understand it. I wondered during the first book how Cynthia could have married Dr. Galbraith; the extensive brainwashing that he inflicted on her is thoroughly explained in this second book. The only thing I did not understand is how she received a life sentence for murdering him. Clearly it was self defense, and she saved the life of the boy, too. He was going to kill both of them, and almost succeeded; so that part was unclear to me. A previous reviewer stated he would have liked details from the trial to see how that all unfolded, and I agree. All in all, it was a fast paced decent read, but not for the faint of heart.

When evil calls your name John Nicholl 9781786106674 Books Reviews

The slow but steady manipulation of an intelligent young girl's mind. One wonders if it would be possible to brainwash someone as easily as that. The manipulated character would have to be a person of low esteem.
Story very well told making the reader want to shake the main character out of her tail spin.
I found this book to be basically different then any I've ever read before. I thought it was Refreshing. I was really surprised that she was put in prison, which did give it a good twist. The book really did hold my interest to the very end. I would most definitely recommend this book to people but #1 would need to be read first.
John Nicholl is a gifted storyteller and this one, like the other two books in the series recounting the evil deeds of twisted child psychiatrist Dr. David Galbraith, didn't disappoint. Galbraith is dead, killed by his wife, Cynthia, who's now serving a life sentence in prison. The book describes her dreary, monotonous days in a cell she shares with various cellmates, two of whom are not the kind of persons you'd ever want to be locked into a small, enclosed space with if you could possibly avoid it.
Cynthia spends her days writing in a journal, an activity that her prison counselor suggests will help her. Cynthia dutifully recounts the story of how her first love, a fellow university student, was killed by a hit-and-run driver while visiting her and her parents in Wales. What readers of Nicholl's previous two books know, and what Cynthia eventually discovers, to her horror, is that Dr. Galbraith was behind the wheel. He'd deliberately killed Cynthia's boyfriend because he wants her for himself, for very disturbing reasons.
I won't leave any more spoilers, but When Evil Calls Your Name keeps the level of dread going right until the end. Nicholl truly knows how to deliver dark, psychological suspense.
This is not for the faint at heart. As she told her story, it was almost a relief to have short looks at her on going life to break the tension that had built up. Fitting end to the story. This was not an enjoyable for story to read but it was a very tense story.

story.
excellent book that I found hard to put down. deals with subjects that can be considered taboo but they are handled well, professionally and honestly. If this is your gendre of book you will definitely enjoy the read. It kept me on the edge of my seat for the entire read.

Starting it was a bit slow as I had to work out what was really going on but it became obvious and clear as the book progressed and you realized what in fact was going on !!! Trust me, ------------read it !!!!
Cynthia Galbraith wife to Dr David Galbraith the most evil man to date. She lives in one prison only to be put in another. She tells her story about how this happened.Only she could tell how she starts and ends up in this life.It takes some time to get to the meat of the story , but when it goes watch out. This woman had no self worth after the death of her love and becomes a victim to a man who tears her down.A must read for women's who may recognize themself in some parts of who she was and who she becomes.Hopefully without all the madness
This is the second John Nicholl novel I've read and I continue to be amazed. WHEN EVIL CALLS YOUR NAME is about as suspenseful and dark as a psychological thriller can get. It's the kind of thriller that can only be written by someone who has seen it and lived it—and author John Nicholl, being a former police officer and child protective services worker, certainly has the credentials.

Imprisoned Cynthia tells her story through her personal memoirs. What was it really like living with the highly intelligent and disturbingly perverse Dr David Galbraith? Her character development is amazing.

The author has a gift of giving the reader just enough to spark the imagination. He does not over-tell the story. He lets the story unfold on its own, which it does in rapid order once you reach a certain point. If you like suspense thrillers, this is as good as it gets.
